Buddha Bar Beach Mazagan

The collaboration between Kerzner International, whose portfolio of luxurious destination resort brands consists of One & Only, Atlantis and Mazagan, and the Buddha Bar Beach brand, which now has venues at Abu Dhabi, Baku, Mykonos and Santorini, bore new fruit with the opening of a new venue at the Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort in Morocco.
The new venue, which is located on a beach with a breath-taking view of the Atlantic Ocean, features a blend of gastronomy, hospitality, wellness, and mixology, with music in Buddha Bar’s signature style livening up afternoons and evenings.

In addition to the space planning, we were responsible for the overall design concept which took its cue from the Buddha Bar Beach brand aesthetic. It employs a palette of natural materials deployed throughout the detailed design and the fixtures, fittings and equipment, and we supported the local team during the build programme to ensure the design was skilfully executed.

The project was notable for three reasons. First, the design works with the topography of the beach, the multi-level decking cascading down the sand dunes onto the beach in a sympathetic manner.
Secondly, considerable time has been spent on developing a lighting scheme that would contribute to and enhance the venue’s overall vibe.
Thirdly, our design recognises the impact of the setting by providing stepped, cushioned areas for sunset watching.

We were briefed to work with the Kerzner and Buddha Bar teams to develop a distinctive guest experience, based on transforming a small beach terrace into an enhanced outdoor experience. The new space now consists of a relaxing lounge area with a robata grill and a sophisticated dining section with a sushi bar - the two joined together by a new, large deck. The deck features loungers and cabanas, an outdoor bar and a DJ booth, while the restaurant includes spectacular sunset views on the menu.

As part of our space planning exercise we also designed a second development phase, which will consist of four big cabanas with their own private terraces, and these will join the four-person cabanas constructed as part of Phase One.
