Client: Kohler
Project: Old Course Hotel - Kohler Waters Spa
December 2017 saw the completion of an £8m project transforming the Kohler Waters Spa at The Old Course Hotel Golf Resort and Spa, St Andrews. Our brief was to help The Old Course Hotel re-launch its spa and leisure offering, following an in £8 million investment in transforming the spa. This involved the construction of a 1,000 sq m Fitness Centre building attached to the five-star hotel, creating a new equipment gym, multi-functional training studio, 20m long swimming pool, hot tub and members’ lounge area.
The new building occupies a challenging and prominent site at the front of the hotel and one aspect of our design work was the maximisation of the available space while respecting existing site boundaries and buildings. During the project we took the opportunity to complete the classical symmetry of the hotel forecourt by creating a colonnaded entrance screen, matching the ballroom foyer opposite.
We acted as architects and contract administrators for the project, working alongside Kohler’s in-house Hospitality Project Management and Interior Design teams to deliver the scheme.
At the same time we were briefed to refresh and update the existing 1,300 square metre spa with works to the existing reception, lounge, spa and hydrotherapy pools and treatment rooms, and to introduce a new spa café, couples’ treatment rooms, experience showers, ice fountain and pool hall roof-light.
